    The International Labour Organization Supports the Government of Nigeria to Convene Stakeholders Sensitization Workshops towards Operationalizing the revised National Policy on Labour Migration

    In February 2023, the Government of Nigeria, under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, organized workshops in Lagos state and the Federal Capital Territory for stakeholders on the revised National Policy on Labour Migration. The workshops were supported by the International Labour Organization within the framework of the FAIRWAY Global Programme.

    Trade union federations in Kenya and Lebanon sign Memoradum of Understanding (MOU) to support and empower African workers in Lebanon

    In November 2022, the Kenyan Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K) and the National Federation of Worker and Employee Trade Unions in Lebanon (FENASOL) committed to inter-union collaboration on both sides of the migration corridor to create a more solid protection framework.

    FAIRWAY in Ethiopia is supporting Mulu Tesfa Domestic Workers Association, the sole affiliate of International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) in Ethiopia, to strengthen its capacity to organize domestic workers including returnee migrant domestic workers and advocate for the protection of their rights

    Africa-Arab States fellowship for journalism students in labour migration reporting

    The ILO FAIRWAY programme has conducted back-to-back activities in Uganda and Jordan for journalism students and recent graduates of four universities: Makerere University (Uganda), Uganda Christian University (Uganda), Yarmouk University (Jordan) and Middle East University (Jordan). These activities are the first part of a broader cross-border fellowship aimed at increasing the interest of journalism students in international labour mobility, enhancing their labour migration reporting skills, and fostering cross-border networks to report these stories along a corridor approach.

    Skills needs in the Oman labour market: An employer survey

    Based on desk research and a survey of 106 firms in Oman, conducted between May and June 2022, the report aims to assess Oman’s skills mix and needs an to help Omani businesses, policymakers, workers organizations, and employers and business membership organizations (EBMOs) to better assess policy options, especially as they pertain to the skills development of nationals and to skills-based international recruitment. If conducted regularly, the survey can be used to help assess the skills and competency gaps of the Omani workforce and identify the sectors and occupations where firms are having difficulty recruiting, with a view to recommending measures with respect to reskilling and upskilling.
