    National Consultation on Labour Dispute Resolution in Jordan

    The National Consultation will discuss the current system of judicial and non-judicial resolution of labour disputes, with a focus on the Ministry of Labour’s role, and to explore constraints and challenges in the current structure; and explore ways forward, including review of promising practices and tools that could support further dialogue on the labour dispute system.

    Through the FAIRWAY Programme in Nigeria, ILO is improving the quality of teaching labour migration related topics for students of Mass Communication and Journalism.

    Training on identifying cases of forced labour of migrant workers in Kuwait supports government officials and company representatives to address an important challenge

    Between 13-15 March 2023, the ILO organized a three-day training on forced labour and trafficking in persons for staff of the labour inspectorate, the labour relations department, the domestic workers department, the shelter (for victims of labour exploitation), and the international relations department of the Public Authority for Manpower. A separate workshop was held for companies, focussing on how tools available to help strengthen business’ ability to combat forced labour and trafficking in persons.

    Awareness raising on Labour Migration for local community leaders in rural Kenya

    The two labour migration awareness raising meetings in Kilifi and Busia brought together local community leaders from across Kilifi County and Busia County including the chiefs, assistant chiefs, village elders, community policing and community administrators.

    Working time and wages are the working conditions that have the most direct and tangible effect on the everyday lives of workers and employers. Wages can determine job choice, the number of hours worked, and whether or not to migrate for employment. Adequate wages that ensure a fair share of the fruits of progress to all and standards for wage protection lie at the heart of the ILO’s mandate on social justice and the promotion of decent work.

    What role can international labour standards and the ILO play in the protection of migrant workers’ wages?

    The ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations (CEACR) has identified non-payment of wages, delayed payment of as key modern-day wage protection issues that can also lead to debt bondage and forced labour, with migrant workers being especially vulnerable. This event presents a new ILO guidance note on the protection of wages for migrant workers.

    Organized private sector in Nigeria engaged on labour migration and rights of migrant workers

    Organised private sector in Nigeria, led by the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) initiated engagement with national stakeholders focusing on improved governance of labour migration and protection of migrant workers’ rights.
