BEIRUT (ILO News) – The Ministry of Labour and the International Labour Organization (ILO) will host a national consultation on Kafala Reform in Lebanon, on 11 and 12 March 2020 at the Mövenpick Hotel in Beirut.

The national consultation is a significant step in a process expected to lead to implementing short and long-term measures to ensure decent work for migrant workers in Lebanon, starting with dismantling the Kafala/sponsorship system that governs labour migration in Lebanon and elsewhere in the region.

The consultation will bring together numerous stakeholders in inclusive dialogue. Officials from a range of government ministries, and representatives of workers’ and employers’ organizations, civil society, academic institutions, diplomatic missions and international organizations, will participate in the event.

Participants will also discuss a revised Standard Unified Contract for the Employment of (Migrant) Domestic Workers, prepared by the Ministry of Labour with a view to its adoption by the Ministry.
