Since 2016, the ILO, with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of the Federal Republic of Germany, through the German Development Bank (KfW), has been implementing an Employment Intensive Infrastructure Programme in Jordan that seeks to improve the living conditions of vulnerable Jordanians and Syrian refugees in host communities through the creation of short-term jobs.

A survey was conducted to provide a better insight into the needs of vulnerable children and their families in Jordan's agricultural sector. Conducted in Irbid, Ramtha, Zarqa, Mafraq and Northern Jordan Valley, the survey focuses on tent settlements where vulnerable agricultural workers are based.

The ILO Programme of Support to the Jordan Compact (POS) supports economic growth, job creation and quality service delivery in Jordan. It directly responds to ongoing labour market challenges exacerbated by the conflict in Syria and builds on a series of subsequent pilot interventions launched between 2013-2015. Since 2016, the ILO POS has scaled-up development-focused and employment-driven interventions to create an enabling environment for decent work and job creation.

The agriculture sector in Jordan provides a critical source of sustenance and income, particularly for the poorest segments of society. Despite its relative level of importance, there is a lack of empirical evidence documenting employment and working conditions in the agriculture sector in Jordan. While small focus group discussions and anecdotal evidence suggest informality and unfavourable working conditions, little data exists to support these claims.

With the assistance of the International Labour Organization (ILO) within the framework of the South-South and Triangular Cooperation, a study tour was arranged in December 2017 for members of the Palestinian Social Security Corporation (PSSC) to the Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI) in the Sultanate of Oman as part of a strategic plan to develop the necessary knowledge and skills of the Board of Directors and key managers of the PSSC to be able to effectively implement the new Palestinian social security law and its social security schemes.

A migrant in an irregular situation or an undocumented migrant is someone who is not authorized to enter, stay or work in the country of destination. There are many pathways to an irregular situation in the Arab States, and migrants often have little control over the complex factors that determine their migration status. This short note on migrants in an irregular situation describes some of the common means through which migrant workers may end up in an irregular situation and proposes recommendations for governments in addressing this important issue.
