Towards Pay Equity: A study on the gender pay gap in the private education sector in Jordan

In order to provide substantive evidence on the pay gap in the private education sector (schools and universities), the International Labour Organization (ILO) in collaboration with the National Steering Committee for Pay Equity (NSCPE) commissioned an in-depth study which also defines the causes of the pay gap and provides ecommendations on the way forward.

The gender pay gap (GPG) is a worldwide phenomenon that refers to the difference between male and female average earnings expressed as a percentage of the male earnings. In other words, if a woman earns 70 per cent of a man’s monthly earnings then the gender pay gap is 30 per cent.
