ILO and Swiss Embassy in Jordan to Celebrate International Domestic Workers’ Day with Screening of ILO Documentary: “Thank you Soma - شكراَ صوما”

The screening and panel discussion, organised by the ILO and Swiss Embassy, will explore the relationship between migrant workers and Arab youth, and aim to challenge common perceptions about migrant workers.

As part of the ILO’s efforts to mark International Domestic Workers’ Day, the International Labour Organization and the Embassy of Switzerland in Jordan will screen the ILO documentary film, “Thank you Soma - شكراَ صوما”. The screening will be followed by an interactive panel discussion which aims to encourage thought and dialogue around migrant domestic workers’ issues in the Arab States region.

Directed by filmmaker Carol Mansour, the documentary explores the story of Nour, a young Lebanese woman, and Soma, the migrant domestic worker who raised her. Together they travel to Soma’s home village in Kandy, Sri Lanka, providing the opportunity for both to reflect on their relationship.
