  1. Syrian Child Labour in Jordan

    The ILO response plan to the Syrian refugee crisis in Jordan has identified child labour as a priority. It is estimated there are currently over 580,000 registered Syrian refugees living in Jordan. While around 160,000 refugees live in designated camps, the remaining refugee population has found shelter in host communities in rural and urban areas across Jordan. Many Syrian children are at risk of falling into the trap of child labour - particularly its worst forms. Already, the Jordanian Government says that child labour has doubled nationwide - to 60,000 - since the refugee influx began in 2011.

    The ILO and the first workers’ organisation for migrant domestic workers in the Arab region will celebrate Mother’s Day and Women’s Day to promote better conditions for domestic workers in Lebanon.

  5. Trainers in Jordan are coached to deliver a module on youth rights and responsibilities in the workplace

    The workshop will fine-tune an existing ILO manual on youth rights at work to then use it to train trainers on international conventions, national labour laws and other work related issues.

  6. Jordan begins the national rollout of coordination efforts to combat child labour

    Ministerial officials from across Jordan will receive training on their roles and responsibilities in combating child labour under the National Framework to Combat Child Labour.

  7. The Ability Factor: Employing people with disabilities makes good business sense

    People with disabilities are the world's largest minority group (1 billion people — 15% of the world's population; of which 785 million are of working age). They face many barriers to employment, including physical, information and attitudinal barriers. Stereotypes and misconceptions prevent them from accessing jobs because these often focus on their disability instead of ability, when in fact they can and do work. This short video aims to raise awareness about the benefits of employing people with disabilities.
