Study on low carbon development and green employment in China

This study was completed by the research team from the Institute for Urban and Environmental Studies (IUE), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of low carbon development on employment in China and to make policy recommendations for the promotion of the dual objectives of employment creation and low carbon development.

The ILO defines "green jobs" as those that reduce the environmental impact of enterprise and economic sectors, to levels that are sustainable. Similarly, "low carbon employment" can be defi ned as employment created in economic sectors and activities which are able to promote enterprise and industry to reduce fossil fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions and mitigate global greenhouse gas emissions.
