Tripartite partners use animation to promote the revised Labour Law of Mongolia

With the support of "Trade for Decent Work" project funded by the European Union, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Mongolia creates animated videos to increase understanding of the revised Labour Law among the general public.

In July 2021, the Parliament of Mongolia approved the revised Labour Law, which marks a significant effort to advance the rights of all workers and align with international labour standards. ILO played a vital role in this process, providing continuous support and guidance through the provision of technical memorandums in 2014 and 2020.

To increase awareness and understanding of the revised Labour Law among the general public, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection in Mongolia (MLSP) has created a series of 20 animated videos. The videos were produced by a group of professionals, including videographers, legal experts with the guidance of MLSP and ILO, as part of the "Trade for Decent Work" project funded by the European Union.

By increasing public awareness about the key provisions of the Labour Law, and making them more accessible for the general public, these animations can empower people to better understand and exercise their rights and make informed decisions about how to comply with their legal obligations.
The animations break down the complexities of the revised Labour Law and cover various areas of labour relations and conditions of work, such as fundamental principles and rights at work, employment contract, labour dispute resolution and more.

Themes covered by the animation series:

  1. Introduction to the revised Labour Law, including fundamental principles and rights at work
  2. Workers in the informal sector, provisions of the labour law protecting them
  3. Prohibition of discrimination in the workplace
  4. Sexual harassment in the workplace is punishable under the Criminal law and the Law of Violations
  5. Prohibition of forced labour
  6. Prohibition of child labour
  7. Social partnership
  8. Freedom of association, Collective bargaining
  9. Interest dispute and strike
  10. The employment contract, its important aspects, and termination process of the employment contract
  11. Emerging forms of employment – working remotely, working from home, working as an apprentice, etc.
  12. Employment contracts between citizens (with an example of an assistant herder, domestic service worker)
  13. Non-competitive obligation/contract
  14. Triangular employment relationship
  15. Working on the basis of a roster (especially for mining industry workers); shift work
  16. Working conditions, working hours, paid leave (including maternity leave), and paid vacation
  17. Wages, benefits, and wage protection
  18. Internal labour regulations
  19. Employment of minors, people with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women 
  20. What is labour rights dispute and how to resolve it?
