Capacity Building Training on Sampling Design for Staff of the National Statistics Office of Mongolia

As part of its cooperation with the ILO to update the LFS sampling design, the National Statistics Office of Mongolia (NSO) is organizing a two day capacity building training for its relevant staff.

NSO is currently reviewing its labour statistics system to ensure that it is in line with international standards, particularly with recent standards from the 19th International Conference of Labour Statisticians. This will require upgrading the current labour force survey (LFS) design. The ILO, therefore, supported a review of the existing LFS design in September and October 2017 and recommended to update it. To follow up on this recommendation, NSO has planned to undertake a capacity building programme for its staff. The first training will cover the following topics:
  • Concepts in Sampling Designs
  • Basic Sampling Designs
  • Stratification
  • Multistage Designs
  • Probability Proportional to Size Sampling
  • Sampling Weights
  • The Use of Auxiliary Information in Estimation
  • Repetitive Surveys and Rotated Sampling Designs
  • Introduction to R
  • The Mongolia Labor Force Survey Design
