Programmes and projects

The ILO operates a wide range of programmes and projects in Asia Pacific focusing on relief and development challenges. The overall purpose of this technical cooperation is to support implementation of the Decent Work agenda in each country.

  1. Supplementation to the Occupational Safety and Health project in Hazardous Work in Viet Nam

    1 April 2015 - 31 March 2016

    This supplementation project aims to build on the outcomes of the previous phase, promote effective consultation and provide the Government with improved recommendations on policies and regulations on occupational safety and health under the Law on Occupational Safety and Health.

  3. Shan State, Myanmar – Peace, Reconciliation & Development through Community Empowerment

    Ceasefire and peace process efforts as part of the reforms since 2011 have presented new opportunities to work with communities and conflict parties to make a measurable contribution to peace at the local level in areas of Myanmar affected by conflict.

  4. Community-Based Enterprise Development to Strengthen Grassroots Activities Targeting Vulnerable Workers and Business Owners

    1 March 2015 - 31 December 2016

    The project aimed to assist improve the capacity of ILO constituents to provide low cost, high impact training on business development to vulnerable workers in the informal economy. The project also aimed to support the tripartite intervention “Supporting Grass-Roots Activities (SGRA)” to strengthen social-dialogue and social protection for workers in the informal economy.

  5. Actuarial Studies for the Establishment of Social Security Schemes (ASSESS): ILO Technical Assistance to the Social Security Fund in Nepal

    1 March 2015 - 31 August 2016

    With funding from the Government of Japan, the project contributes to the constituents’ efforts for improved quality and financial viability of social security schemes to be designed and implemented by the Social Security Fund (SSF), Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE). The designing of five social security schemes related to unemployment benefits, maternity benefits, medical care, sickness benefits, and employment injury benefits are based on the actuarial analysis carried out for these schemes.

  6. UN Women-ILO project: ‘Preventing the exploitation of women migrant workers in ASEAN’

  7. More and Better Jobs through Socially Responsible Labour Practices in Pakistan

    15 February 2015 - 31 December 2020

    In partnership with the Employers’ Federation of Pakistan and the Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PSGMEA), the ILO Office for Pakistan is implementing the project that aims to foster a partnership approach between MNEs and their direct suppliers on advancing socially responsible labour practices.

  9. Increasing productivity and competitiveness through labour law compliance in Pakistan’s textile sector

    1 February 2015 - 30 June 2016

    In partnership with Pakistan Textiles Exporters Association (PTEA), the ILO is providing technical support in promoting Labour Law Compliance in Textile Sector in Faisalabad for better productivity and competitiveness. The 3 years long project will provide support to 280 factories and will focus on institutionalising a monitoring and reporting mechanism at the industry association level and providing enterprise level support in developing workplace improvement policies and programmes. The project will closely work with tripartite supervisory bodies at federal, provincial and district levels, international buyers/sourcing community and other stakeholders.

  10. Employment Promotion in Disaster Response

    1 February 2015 - 31 January 2016

    The project aims to support in developing, demonstrating and disseminating a regional strategy or approach to promote employment creation in post-natural disaster recovery, reconstruction and development work. Whilst many countries in Asia and the Pacific region have experienced a large number of disasters every year, they have accumulated a rich body of knowledge and experience on how to prepare for and recover from natural hazards. The project is expected to contribute to further advancing this knowledge and the exchange of such knowledge and mutual learning between countries in the Region that are prone to large-scale and/or frequent natural disasters.

  11. Scaling Up: Skills For Trade & Economic Diversification (STED) Myanmar

    1 January 2015 - 31 December 2016

    The “Scaling up: Skills for Trade and Economic Diversification (STED) Myanmar” Project aims to improve the outcomes of Myanmar’s skill trainings and link them to the country’s export growth for more and better jobs in the selected export sectors (Tourism and Agriculture).

  12. Trade Unions for Social Justice

    1 January 2015 - 29 February 2016

    The project aims to promote International Labour Standards and Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and supports the trade unions’ campaign for the ratification of Core Labour Standards.

  13. Promoting the Right to Freedom of Association and the Right to Collective Bargaining (FOACB)

    1 January - 31 December 2015

    The Project will contribute to improving labour-relations in Sri Lanka.

  14. Technical Support for Enhancing the National Capacity to Prevent and Reduce Child Labour in Viet Nam (ENHANCE)

    1 January 2015 - 1 June 2020

    This project contributes to the prevention and progressive elimination of child labour in Viet Nam through supporting the National Plan of Action on the Prevention and Reduction of Child Labour.

  15. Support to Implement Youth Employment Policies and Coordinating for Youth Employment in Sri Lanka

    1 January - 31 December 2015

  16. Testing methodologies to support informal economy workers and small producers to combat hazardous child labour in their own sectors (India Component with IndustriALL Global)

    The project aims to build the capacity of informal economy workers to address hazardous child labour.

  17. Local Economic Development through Tourism (LED) Project

    1 January - 31 December 2015

    The Project contributes to poverty reduction, sustainable job creation and peace building through an improved environment with strengthened governance, effective community-based services and public-private partnership that economically empower vulnerable groups in conflict-affected populations in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka.

  18. Strengthening the Performance of the Social Insurance System in Viet Nam through Improved Legislation and Legal Framework for Social Insurance (Phase 2)

    1 January 2015 - 31 December 2016

    The project aims to help strengthen the quality and performance of the legislation and legal framework for social insurance in Viet Nam, thus improve the performance of the country’s social insurance system and contribute to the national economic development and social security.

  19. Enterprise Development, Growth and Enhancement (EDGE)

    1 January - 25 December 2015

    EDGE is an innovative training approach for employers’ organizations and business associations to assist their SME members develop the skills needed to improve productivity, competitiveness, and working conditions.

  20. Community-Based Enterprise Development (C-BED)

    C-BED is a low cost, easy to implement training approach designed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to help institutions support entrepreneurs and micro-business owners start new businesses or improve existing businesses.
