Communications internship vacancy

Internship available in 2019 at the ILO Regional Communications Unit (RCOMM) for Asia and the Pacific, Bangkok, Thailand.

  • Unit: ILO Regional Communication unit for Asia and the Pacific (RCOMM)
  • Duration: 6 months
  • Duty Station: Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, Bangkok, Thailand
RCOMM unit oversees and undertakes communications initiatives on behalf of the Regional Office and throughout the region, and liaises with the ILO’s global communications unit at its headquarters in Geneva. The communications and advocacy work relates to key issues and themes related to the Decent Work Agenda and its promotion and implementation in the region. The intern will support RCOMM unit in promoting ILO’s work and messages in Asia and the pacific, and monitoring its communications activities and impact.

Tasks

  • Prepare content (graphics, slide shows, digital cards, tweets) using Photoshop
  • Proofread written outputs (press releases, articles, newsletters, social media posts)
  • Update country briefs
  • Prepare PowerPoint templates for the ILO regional office in Asia-Pacific
  • Provide technical assistance/support to ILO social media activities and campaigns in the region (including Facebook live sessions) and monitor their impact
  • Update RCOMM’s list of contacts (internal&external) also with a view to expand @iloAsiaPacific followers on twitter
  • Monitor and review ILO regional photo albums on Flickr (Tagging+captioning)
  • Set up/maintain a template for RCOMM’s activities&impact (Excel based)
  • Set up/maintain a dashboard monitoring online KPIs of ILO websites in Asia-Pacific (mainly based on Google analytics)
  • Conduct a review/analysis of the ILO Newsletters in Asia-Pacific assessing their impact/readership
  • Any other assignment required to support the regional communication unit’s routine, such as events set-up, media requests follow-up, etc...

Competencies and skills required

  • Excellent command of English (Native/Near native)
  • Demonstrated ability to create and use images, memes and messaging to achieve communication objectives
  • Demonstrated expertise in using Excel, PowerPoint and Photoshop
  • Good knowledge and understanding of web indicators: how to collect and analyse data
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media to communicate corporate messages;
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media monitoring tools and Google analytics
  • Show willingness to acquire new knowledge
  • Ability to work as an independent member of a diverse team, combining autonomy and team spirit
  • Ability to produce quality results swiftly
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and multilingual environment

Education

The candidate must be enrolled in a graduate degree programme (Master or equivalent) , or in a higher degree programme, in communications and/or a related field (e.g. law, economics, business, social sciences, marketing) or have completed such programme in the year preceding the application.

Additional Information

Financial Matters: Where an intern is not supported by an institution, a stipend to cover basic subsistence costs will be paid by the ILO. In Bangkok, this will be at the level of US$550 (equivalent in local currency at the UN prevailing rate) per month. The intern will be provided the facilities needed to carry out their tasks, such as office space, access to a PC, a printer and a telephone.

Insurance: Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship. Included in the stipend level quoted above is the equivalent of 1,530 Thai Baht per month as a contribution to the medical insurance.
