ILO/AIDS held an experts consultation to develop country research methodologies to generate knowledge on “the access to and effect of social protection programmes on women and men workers in formal and informal economies living with HIV and their households.” This experts consultation was held at the ILO in Geneva on 20 – 21 May 2013 and brought together HIV, social protection and research experts from around the world.

The ILO Training Centre in Turin is organizing a two-week capacity-building course on HIV/AIDS and the world of work, with a prevention and social protection perspective. The course aims to strengthen the capacity of planners and social actors to develop and implement workplace policies and programmes on HIV and AIDS that build on and benefit from the decent work approach, covering rights, prevention, employment issues, social protection aspects and social dialogue.

The meeting aims at generating ideas to strengthen teachers’ roles in contributing to HIV prevention efforts and ensuring that teachers living with HIV can be supported through effective policies and HIV prevention, treatment and care programmes, protecting them from HIV-related stigma and discrimination. The meeting will address specific challenges faced by teachers living with and affected by HIV and AIDS in West and Central Africa. The meeting will be organized jointly by ILO, UNESCO, the World Bank, UNAIDS, WHO, Ministries of Education, Education International (EI), and Partnership for Child Development (PCD).

On 18 March 2012, the ILO will participate and speak in a satellite meeting, a pre-conference event to the conference “HIV in Europe: Working Together for Optimal Testing and Earlier Care” in Copenhagen, Denmark. ILO/AIDS will speak on "How does Protection of rights at work help enhancing access to HIV services: The ILO Recommendation on HIV and AIDS (No. 200) and experiences in its implementation with a focus on Europe and the private sector” in the satellite meeting being organized on “The role of HIV workplace policies and programmes in addressing 'barriers' to early HIV counselling, testing, treatment and care”, and address participants in the session.

The ILO has developed six posters to highlight the contribution of the workplace to "Getting to Zero".

Meeting organized in the context of the XIX World Congress on Safety and Health at Work held in Turkey from 11 to 15 September 2011. Government, employers’ and workers’ organizations, UNAIDS, Organizations of Persons Living with HIV (PLHIV) and the ILO met to share experiences for the occupational health services to best protect their workers.
