High Level Panel (HLP) on Labour Migration in Nigeria: Impacts of COVID-19 on the Rights of Migrant Workers in Nigeria

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is within the framework of the “Initiative for Labour Migration, Employment and Reintegration (LMER) in Ghana and Nigeriaorganizing a High Level Panel on Labour Migration in Nigeria with the theme: Implications of COVID19 on the Rights of Migrant Workers in Nigeria. The project which is funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is supporting the governments’ of both countries to strengthen labour migration governance and given the current context of COVID19, now takes cognizance of the urgent and immediate need of the protection of rights of migrant workers to be at the centre of national discourse in relation to all engagement by relevant stakeholders in the area of labour migration.
Objectives
The High Level Panel is designed to provide a platform to:
1. Engage with policymakers on the level of protection and promotion of migrant workers’ rights amid concerns of COVID-19 in Nigeria.
2. Highlight the nexus between labour migration, COVID-19 and rights of migrant workers, and
3. Raise awareness on good practices and available support mechanisms in place for protecting human and labour rights of migrant workers in Nigeria.
