Nepal:Workers’ Mobilization for Policy Interventions
The main objective of the conference is to draw attention of the Government of Nepal for protecting workers’ fundamental rights.
The ILO Bureau for Workers ‘Activities (ACTRAV) in cooperation with All Nepal Federation of Trade Unions ( ANTUF), General Federations of Nepalese Trade Unions ( GEFONT) and Nepal Trade Union Congress ( NTUC) affiliated to the International Confederation of Trade Unions (ITUC), will organize a conference on” Workers Mobilization for Policy Interventions” in Kathmandu from 27 to 28 October 2014.
The Conference supported by the ACTRAV/Norway project “Trade Unions for Social Justice" will bring together 1200 union leaders representing all sectors (formal and informal). The main objective of the conference is to draw attention of the Government of Nepal for protecting workers’ fundamental rights.
Participants to this conference will discuss on three thematic issues: Labour rights in the new constitution including SAARC agenda for protecting migrant workers, New Labour Laws including Social Security Rights, and Ratification and Application of International Labour Standard.

Objectives
The objectives of the Conference are:- Sensitize union leaders of both (formal and informal) sectors about the progress and status of drafting new labour laws;
- Discuss possible way outs for introducing social security systems and benefits;
- Lobby with policy makers (Constituent Assembly members) for completing the labour market reform process and ratification and implementation of ILO conventions 87, 189 and 102.
